Student-Staff Collaborative 2021-onwards
Supporting the development and delivery of a student-staff collaborative being run out of the Department of Law & Criminology at Sheffield Hallam University
The group's central objective is to foster an understanding of the experiences of students from African, Asian and other Minoritised Groups (AAMG) and work proactively to embed an inclusive curriculum and wider student offer.
Manifest Diversity was created to be driven by student leaders, supported by a multi-disciplinary team, to develop and embed a student-led steering group with opportunities for co-collaboration across all elements of university life, facilitate opportunities to network, develop leadership skills, and promote the student voice and an inclusive culture.
They do this by:
Building a platform and community to give students a voice to collectively address barriers to equality. This we hope, will embed and promote multiple initiatives which will be highlighted and developed by students and for students, albeit in collaboration with members of staff.
Identifying issues that affect students from African Asian or other Minoritised groups and work proactively to ensure equality of provision across all aspects of the university’s business.
Providing a safe space for discussion (what do ‘I’ need as a student to make me feel comfortable) and opportunities to minimise the impacts of structural inequality as a collective.
Their work so far includes:
Working with other departments to help them set up groups for minority students.
Writing several EDI-centred articles for publication on SHU Blogs.
Hosting a Bi-weekly podcast exploring minority student views with members of staff.
Authoring a guide for staff in the Law and Criminology department towards promoting inclusivity, which has now been developed to be used across all departments.
Creation of an ‘Alternative Fresher’s’ Map originally meant to be for students in Law and Criminology, but now adopted across several departments.
Research on placements and inclusivity.
Development of a WordPress site in which blogs and other materials are published.
